An important PSA about black holes [Nov. 17th, 2009|03:47 pm]
Okay folks. Since I had fun doing that last little rant about 2012, I thought I'd link this for anyone who has the wrong idea about black holes. No, there are no black holes in 2012. Frankly, that would have IMPROVED the movie. >.>

http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/black_hole_sun.html

Also, for those of you afraid that the Hadron Supercollider in Europe would create a black hole that would suck up the Earth:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micro_black_hole#Stability_of_a_micro_black_hole

Micro black holes have almost no mass. Mass is what makes a black hole dangerous.

Sadly, now and then, SCIENCE FICTION LEADS TO STUPIDITY.

P.S. On an unrelated note, Jupiter is far too small in mass to become a sun, at least 80 times too small. There's not enough matter in the Solar System outside the sun itself that could make that change, so Jupiter's not gonna change anytime soon.

Is it so painful to do a little research? [Nov. 13th, 2009|02:34 am]
Out of sheer MORBID curiosity, I looked up the movie 2012 on Wikipedia. It seems there's already a synopsis for it. I will admit this before I even go into my points: I am biased against the movie. It looks scientifically unsound from the very trailers, and I held no hopes of it making any sense. I WILL LJ cut for those who, for whatever reason, do plan to see the movie.

It got worse. )

A little late, but... [Oct. 20th, 2009|12:24 pm]
[mood | confused]

Even I'm confused by this whole thing with Obama getting the Nobel Prize. Now, it's not that I don't think he has the capacity to earn it legitimately, but at this point...isn't it a little premature? Since when do the Swiss hand out Nobel Prizes anachronistically? If you ask me, the Swiss are trying to suck up. Or they're giving it to him for not being Bush, which is even more ass (I know, I didn't like the man, but winning for not being someone the world didn't like is absolutely stupid).

(Please, no responses about likes or dislikes of Obama. This is specifically about the WTFery of him winning the Nobel Prize for not having done anything spectacular or even particularly noteworthy to earn it. Off topic comments will be deleted..WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE!!!)

Gah...why King of Fighters too?! [Oct. 9th, 2009|12:14 am]
http://www.destructoid.com/videos/oh-god-behind-the-scenes-of-the-king-of-fighters-movie-150786.phtml

I'm sorry, but there have been few things things in life I found completely too good to violate. The King of Fighters was one of those things. And I was keeping some track of the movie, hoping it might not turn into a complete pile of shit...until I saw how they cast Terry Bogard. And then I wanted to kill something.

WHY CAN HOLLYWOOD NOT STAY OUT OF VIDEO GAMES?!

Especially this one? I mean, how did KoF get on their radar anyway?

Finale [Jul. 27th, 2009|11:45 pm]
So, if anyone knows how things have been going with me, and for those that don't, I've resumed college. Only one class this semester, Japanese. And tomorrow is the final. And the way this PARTICULAR class works is that there's only one graded assignment: said final. I'm nervous like crazy, but fairly confident. Anyone who reads this, please...

Respect for the Dead [Jun. 26th, 2009|08:36 am]
So, I'm sure we've all heard about the king of pop passing. I heard myself at work yesterday, and being the curious wolf I am, asked around about what everyone thought. One person's response, an older black woman's, shocked me. She said that Michael passed like that because of him molesting children, being soft because of what he did to those soft kids. I'm sorry, but...no matter if it was true or not, WHAT THE FUCK?! Michael's not even buried and you're talking like this? I'm sorry, I just got totally pissed that she had the nerve to say something like that.

Totally missing the point... [Apr. 2nd, 2009|03:39 pm]
http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2009/03/the_watchmen_li.html

I have never heard of this moron before now. But she reviews Watchmen as if it's meant to be targeted at children. No one really thinks any action figures made from this movie are targeted for the kiddies, it's for adult fans who like collectibles, etc.

I'm not the biggest fan of Watchmen, I hate Rorschach; however, I happened to like the overall plot and would probably enjoy the graphic novel more. But this is the epitome of COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT! Guh...as a fan of DEEP and INTELLIGENT stories in comics and superhero-related media, this is a smack in the face! Oh noes!

THEN there's the whole controversy over Doc Manhattan's suspension bridge (hur hur). Look, men have penises. For whatever reason, in western society, we've reached a point where to some people, nudity and genitalia are so offensive, they'll nearly kill over it. And this boggles my mind. Because this is something we're ALL born with (the men, at least; and then, ladies have their own equally covered parts), and I'm not one to believe God's gonna cry if we don't stay covered up. GET OVER THE FEAR OF PENIS!

I suppose, in conclusion, that I don't like people who act like this: they see something and attack it from the wrong angle, and won't admit they're wrong no matter HOW many times they're shown to the contrary.

(Thank TVTropes for me coming across that article. Damn, TVTropes will ruin your life.)

I'm Going Back To School This Summer [Mar. 5th, 2009|05:00 pm]
And I am scared out of my mind. I have tried to do college two times, failed each of the three semesters I attended. And I want to succeed this time, but I am VERY scared. About my relationships, about my job, almost everything. Even though I'm taking it slow this time...I'm just very worried, given my past. I just hope I'll be ready when classes start.

So... [Nov. 27th, 2008|08:28 am]
I don't usually talk about FA. Mostly because it's no big deal. But I just can't stand aside and let the current banner just go on without speaking my mind.

This video perfectly describes my feelings on the situation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwz9E-0ANck

Okay, guys? Chill [Nov. 4th, 2008|11:34 pm]
Yes, Barack Obama won. Congrats. Now, things to consider:

-Florida 2000.

-But more importantly, his election to presidency doesn't automatically FIX the economy or anything else. He's not Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he's not the second coming of Jesus. He's a man. JUST a man. He has a lot of potential, but let's keep this in focus. He won't even BE president until January. Got it? This doesn't fix everything. It'll take work, courage and guts. And we'll have to see if he's got it.

Does he have the potential? I think he does. I think he'll make a great president if he puts himself to it, and, more importantly, remembers to value the views and opinions of ALL the citizens, not just the Democrats.

Guys. Let's work on reconciling and working on moving forward, for ALL of us.

Sudden Flash of Insight...and Concern [Oct. 28th, 2008|02:02 am]
[mood | pensive]

So, as those of you I talk to regularly know, I'm not exactly having the best of luck finding a new job. I go through phases of trying and failing, giving up, then trying again, but I can't seem to stick with it. Anyway, through much thinking and odd twists and turns, I come across an odd thought: could I have Asperger Syndrome? It's something that my mother has mentioned before but bothers me, but now I really have to know. I know most of you out there aren't psychiatrists, but...from what those of you that know me know...do you think I could have Asperger's?

I refuse to discuss my political leanings in this forum of discussion. [Oct. 13th, 2008|08:27 pm]
Why? Simple. Because I don't want to be chided and belittled for what I think. I got enough of that from someone at FWA and I'm still steamed at him, and I don't feel like getting it anymore. So everyone else, feel free to discuss politics, but don't expect me to join in. One thing I learned is my friends are more important than the fucking shit that happens in Washington.

Anyone who's got a problem with me doing that...*gives the finger* You can take yours and shove it up your ass for all I care.

So, what is there to say...um..
Work: Work still sucks, but the management has shifted so the new manager is bareable. She's a meticulous bitch, but she's a CONSISTENT meticulous bitch, at least I know where she stands. As for full time...we'll see. >.> Hours are doing okay, and I'm VERY glad to have had weekends off for now.

Home: Still living with folks, still being driven insane by my family. Shadow and I are doing great, and we're both looking forward to this weekend's Double XP Weekend on City of Heroes, and we're both looking forward to FWA.

In other news, as some of you know, I've been working out on a regular basis for over a year now. I'm proud to say it's making me feel really good, and while I have trouble telling I'm getting much out of it, my friends have been telling me that I seem to be making progress. I'm kind of amazed to have been able to stick with it for so long, considering my history with exercise and proper eating. I still have a gut, but...I gots bigger muscles, so I'm happy. ^.^

Anyway, I have to go to bed, because I have to get up at 7 AM so I can make an asinine work meeting in which they'll tell us "sales are down, push the Rewards Cards, and stop screwing around. You kids screw around too much." So...later!

Also...I'M STILL WAITIN' FOR MAH SAKE BITCHES!!!!

Your Score: The Wolf

You scored 44% domestic, 57% gregarious, 32% trickster, and 32% intellect!

Wild, Gregarious, Serious and Emotional: you are the Wolf!

Wolf people tend to revere individualism, but retain a predominant sense of family. Wolf represents all aspects of sociability, and the need for variety (in internal and external affairs) to remain healthy. Wolf is a strong symbol of loyalty and patience. Wolf medicine is deeply rooted in the importance of learning through teaching, new ideas, freedom of mind and body, and responsibility for self and others.

This test categorized you based on four different axes of personality, which were then associated with a different animal. The four axes, as well as all possible results are explained below.

Wild/Domestic: This first axis categorizes you based on how much you are drawn to the outdoors, versus how much you are drawn to civilized situations. Domesticity has many shapes and forms, and varies from the joy of dolphins leaping next to a ship to the steadfast loyalty of a family dog.

Gregarious/Solitary: This axis measures how solitary you are. If you scored high, it means that you enjoy the company of other people, while a low score indicates that you prefer a more solitary lifestyle.

Trickster/Serious: This axis measures how well you line up with conventional trickster archetypes. People who fall into this archetype have a sense of humor and an excitable, highly chaotic streak. Scoring low doesn't mean that you don't have a sense of humor; it just means that you probably don't think dynamite is very funny.

Intellectual/Emotional: This last axis determines whether you are more emotional -- acting based on feelings and instinct, or rational and intelectual -- acting more on thought than on your gut feelings.
